Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-09-20. These terms cover the Yourkive app, the optional Automations subscription, and the hosted helpers that automations use.
What Yourkive is
Yourkive is a local-first journaling app. Your entries are stored on your own device and, if you enable sync, in your own cloud storage. We do not host your journal, and you never need an account to write. The only account is the optional Automations account, and it holds your plan and the devices you’re signed in on — never your entries. That shapes everything below, including what we can and cannot do for you.
Free and Automations
Keeping a private journal is free: unlimited entries, search, links, attachments, encryption and the app lock, sync to your own cloud, and export. This is not a trial and it does not expire.
An Automations account is an optional subscription, billed yearly, that adds stats, batch editing, connected-service automations, and weather enrichment without the free daily cap. The current price is shown on the pricing section at the time you subscribe.
Subscribing, renewing and cancelling
- An Automations subscription renews automatically each year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, and it stays active until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Cancelling never touches your journal. Your entries are files on your device and in your own cloud; when the subscription ends you keep all of them, you keep export, and the free tier keeps working. Only the subscription features stop.
- We will tell you before a price change affects a renewal, and you can cancel instead.
- Payments are handled by our payment provider, which acts as the merchant of record and issues your receipt. We never see or store your card details.
Refunds
If the subscription is not what you expected, email [email protected] within 30 days of a charge and we will refund it. Beyond that window we will still consider it — tell us what happened. Refunding a period ends the subscription for that period.
Your Automations account
The subscription lives on an account you sign in to with your email address and a one-time code — no password. Sign in with the address you paid with and it turns on; sign in on each of your devices to use it there. Settings shows every device signed in, and you can sign any of them out or delete the account at any time. Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription, so cancel first.
An account is for one person and their own devices. It is non-transferable and may be suspended if it is shared publicly, resold, or used to abuse the hosted helpers.
Codes and preview keys
We sometimes give out codes for free Automations time. A code adds its stated time to your account, can be used once per account, may carry a redeem-by date or a limit on how many people can use it, and has no cash value. Discount codes for a subscription are entered at checkout instead.
Keys issued free of charge during the earlier preview (yk_key_…) continue to work, on their own or redeemed onto one account.
Your data and backups
You own your content. Because we don’t store it, we cannot recover it for you — not for a paying subscriber either. You are responsible for keeping backups: sync writes plain files to your own cloud, and export is always available on every tier.
Availability and warranty
The app is provided “as is,” without warranty. The hosted helpers depend on third-party providers and may be unavailable at times; an automation that cannot reach a provider fails quietly and your entry still saves. We do not offer a service-level guarantee, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability is limited to what you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law where you live.
Acceptable use of hosted helpers
The hosted automations service is provided as a convenience to the person subscribing. Please don’t abuse it — no automated scraping, no attempts to circumvent rate limits, no sharing an account or key to serve other people, and no use as a general-purpose proxy. We may rate-limit, suspend, or block access that appears abusive, and we may pause a hosted helper entirely if a provider’s costs or terms demand it.
Privacy
See the Privacy Policy. In short: your journal stays yours; the only data we keep is anonymous, opt-in usage, the small Automations account if you create one, and the purchase records a paid subscription necessarily creates.
Changes
We may update these terms as Yourkive develops; material changes will be surfaced in the app and dated here. If a change materially reduces what the subscription gives you, you may cancel and ask for a pro-rata refund of the unused period.
